TANK FLOOR SCAN SURVEY

Tank Storage

3D laser scans of the floor of a storage tank provide an accurate calculation for movement subject to loading. This reduces the likelihood of false readings and a similar principle can be used for storage tank foundations. This minimises the amount of time inspections take inside a confined space, and this remote method of surveying allows for greater accuracy of the readings taken on the tank floor.

A tank deformation survey provides a general overview of the shells condition. The intensity of the scan contours can be adjusted to suit our client’s needs. Further sections can be produced where there are areas of concern and the data can be compared to theoretical cylinder geometry or to previous scans to calculate any differentials. IKM can also advise on API standards and guidance.

RADIAL DEFLECTION

Tank Storage

Shell deflection is the degree that the storage tank shell is displaced under pressure from the liquid contents, existing structure, and external factors.  We provide customers with accurate data collected from laser scans.  Measurements and figures are compiled within client reports, allowing for analysis pertaining to specific calculations.

TANK OVALITY

An Ovality survey provides information on the current tank profile, providing our clients with a detailed view of the ovality shape at any given interval along the tank surface.

Storing hazardous substances such as chemicals, petroleum products, and liquefied gasses, means that our clients need to manage the associated risks.  Our storage tank calibration surveys are designed to help clients determine precis tank capacity and volumetrics.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

CDOIF & Environmental Risk Assessments (ERA’s)

Upper and lower-tier COMAH facilities are required by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and relevant Environment Agency to demonstrate the measures in place to reduce the risk of Major Accident Hazard (MAH) as well as Major Accident to the Environment (MATTE).

The Chemical and Downstream Oil Industries Forum (CDOIF) published guidance for a new method of environmental risk assessment for COMAH assets.

Gordon is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 14+ years of experience.  Specialising in the design and assessment of secondary and tertiary containment systems for fuel storage facilities and associated civil infrastructure,  Gordon has extensive experience working within Brownfield environments.   Gordon has successfully delivered the civils & structural design words associated with 30+ new build tanks and 15+ tank overhaul projects.
