Project Description

Storage Tank Civil & Structural Infrastructure | Kingsbury Terminal, UK

Project Details

Storage Tank Civil Design

The Challenge

Shell required the installation of a new product storage tank and associated civil and structural infrastructure to facilitate the storage, blending and loading of Shell V-Power additive at the Kingsbury Terminal. The site is a joint venture owned by Shell / BP and operated by BP.

To integrate with the existing site operations the new additive tank was to be installed within an existing bund, adjacent to an existing tank. The existing tank was scheduled to be out of commission for a 2 week period providing a window in which to break containment of the existing bund floor and install the new foundation.

The works were to be carried out within a congested area of live plant.

The Solution

IKM worked in close collaboration with the project manager, mechanical and electrical designers, Fabri Consulting, to successfully deliver the project. Our civil and structural engineers were able to provide an integrated design covering the follow key elements:

  • A reinforced concrete tank foundation
  • Reinforced concrete pump plinths and ancillary foundations
  • Pipe & cable ladder support structures
  • Steel platforms and walkway tie-ins for tank access
  • Assessment of existing structures for re-use

Our involvement in the project also included geotechnical and environmental support and topographic surveying.
