The Challenge
IKM has been undertaking routine groundwater monitoring at a PPC site for a long-term client. Recent results had indicated a change in site conditions and emerging potential risks from historical contamination sources as contaminants were not behaving as initially predicted.
The Solution
IKM completed a detailed analysis of the site dataset, which was now available, including 3D ground modelling using Surfer. This has resulted in significantly enhanced understanding of the site, and greater appreciation for likely contaminant and groundwater behaviour. IKM also considered how climate change may impact the site and a potential association was identified between contaminant concentrations and the frequency and magnitude of
preceding rainfall. IKM has since used this analysis to recommend additional targeted site investigation.
