Generic Quantitative Risk Assessment (GQRA)

Our contaminated land team has extensive experience in providing contaminated land risk assessment services across Scotland and England. We support a wide range of development, industrial, manufacturing and infrastructure projects. Our specialist environmental consultants conduct risk assessments and site investigations for brownfield and contaminated land sites in accordance with UK Guidance, specifically the Model Procedures for Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM).

In the UK, the Environment Agency’s Model Procedures for Land contamination risk management, known as LCRM, guide the risk assessment approach for contaminated or potentially contaminated land. This guidance follows a conceptual model process where sources, pathways, and receptors are assessed on a site-specific basis, considering both human health and environmental receptors. Compliance with the Environmental Protection Act (1990) and Local Authorities’ requirements is ensured through these investigations.

Our risk assessment process for contaminated land varies from straightforward phase 1 desk studies and qualitative assessments to more complex quantitative risk assessments. These may include intrusive site investigations and subsequent monitoring of water, soil, and ground gases across Scotland and the UK.

When land contamination poses risks to health or the environment, we provide an Options Appraisal to find the best path to planning permission and project continuation. Our consultants conduct detailed quantitative risk assessments (DQRA) to define the necessary remediation level, offering remediation options if required.

We prepare Remediation Strategy Reports for agreement with Local Authorities and Regulators. Working with clients and partners, we provide comprehensive waste management services, minimising waste and ensuring cost-effective, sustainable disposal methods.
