Risk Assessment. IKM have a great deal of experience of carrying out quantitative risk assessments on a variety of sites.
Examples of the type of projects where IKM regularly carry out quantitative risk assessments include major housing developments, industrial complexes, former petrol station redevelopments, retail sites, gardens and other sensitive areas. The findings of the risk assessment process can reduce the extent and/or requirement for remediation at a site and hence bring considerable cost benefits to clients. For many the risk assessment process starts and ends with the generation of Site Specific Target Levels. At IKM, however, we view the risk assessment process as an objective tool for assessing the requirement for site remediation prior to re-use or development. Our in-house risk assessment specialists are adept with a variety of exposure models, including the EA/DEFRA endorsed CLEA and Remedial Targets Spreadsheets, and more complex numerical software, including RISC4, RBCA and ConSim. The company's senior risk assessor is highly experienced in the algorithims underlying the risk assessment programmes and has been key to IKM's success in many complex negotiations with regulators. In addition, IKM's hydrogeologist has been involved in the development of LandSim V2 and ConSim V2, and is intimately familiar with these software packages. IKM are also adept at modifying risk assessment models to represent UK Best Practice and the particular requirements of any site. Alistair Kean (Environmental Director) chairs the Contaminated Land Working Group of the Environmental Industries Commission. He is heavily involved with the plans to improve the practicality of the SGVs and the CLEA programme.
