Delineation - Decontamination - Demolition - Disposal
Throughout the past year, IKM's engineering and environmental teams have worked closely to successfully design and implement a combined remedial strategy in Inverness-shire.

The project comprised the demolition of two four-storey blocks of flats, and the removal of a former gas works and associated contaminated soils. The works, on a small site in a dense urban environment, required special care. To promote sustainability, demolition arisings were crushed locally for reuse on-site. Due to the sensitivity of the site, on-site monitoring was undertaken for dust, vapours, noise and vibration, resulting in minimal enquires from surrounding residents.

IKM acted as CDM Coordinator and Engineer for the contract, and also prepared contract documents, assisting in the contractor tender process. Following site clearance, the contaminated soils were delineated using IKM's state of the art test kit technology, excavated and segregated into different waste streams. Excavations were validated prior to backfill. The site was handed back to the client as a development platform, on time and below budget estimate.
