Brief
IKM were requested by Total Fina Elf to undertake an environmental risk assessment as input to a COMAH submission for two oil storage facilities. The client required to know the likely results and impacts that would arise from various loss of containment scenarios.
Solution
The assessment initially involved a walkover and desk based study which considered the following:
- Geological and hydrogeological archives.
- Historical site data and photographic records.
- Information from a site walkover.
A series of risk matrices were compiled based on the desk study findings and a quantitative risk assessment was completed. The assessment considered several different spillage scenarios and their potential impact on the environment.
Outcome
IKM presented the client with a detailed quantitative environmental risk assessment report which assisted with the client's COMAH application.
