Brief

IKM were appointed immediately after a spillage of crude oil from a buried pipe, to advise on the clean up of the resulting soil contamination.

Solution

Samples were also taken from adjacent watercourses for use in discussion with the regulators.  The contaminated soils were successfully removed from around the pipe and disposed of off-site.

Outcome

Water contamination was minimised and the regulator was satisfied that all reasonable measures had been put in place.  The client was not prosecuted.
