Brief
The existing Control Room on the Bruce Platform was a typical example of an old Control Room design, with little regard for ‘Human Factors' and the Operator Environment. During a controls re-instrumentation project, the Client identified that the opportunity should be taken to optimise the Control Room environment.
IKM were employed to review the current layout and propose a scheme design and ‘Best Practice' report.
Solution
After undertaking the BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training) course, we visited the Platform for an initial survey and discussions with the operators.
The final solution addressed reduction in operator distractions through a revised layout design and the provision of a flexible emergency response/ handover area. It also focused on acoustics, lighting, finishes and fittings.
