Brief
IKM were commissioned by BP at Sullom Voe Terminal in Shetland to assist in the demolition of a series of 70m tall fractionation columns, in the heart of a busy process area.
Solution
IKM's engineering team were able to carry out detailed risk assessments, pre-weakening designs, and prepare a demolition strategy that would ensure that the columns fell on pre-prepared beds in a controlled manner. In advance of this potentially hazardous work, IKM's environmental team carried out a detailed inspection of the columns to ensure they were gas and product free.
Outcome
The columns were successfully pulled down with minimal disruption, on time and on budget. After demolition, the columns were cut up and exported by barge for recycling.
