Brief
IKM was appointed as the environmental advisor to the First-Nuttall Joint Venture for the redevelopment of the 21km long Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine railway. This involved assessing the ongoing environmental impact of both the design and construction phase of the project. Ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental legislation.
Scope of Work
IKM's environmental responsibilities included:
- Environmental compliance audits.
- Liaising with regulators (SNH, SEPA, Historic Scotland and various local authorities).
- Waste management issues.
- Organising licences for abstraction/ discharge to/watercourses.
- Management of invasive weeds.
- Organising development licences for European protected species.
- Identification and remediation of contaminated land.
- Noise and vibration monitoring.
- Landscape design proposals.
- Assessing environmental impact of drilling and grouting works.
Outcome
The works were completed successfully without any significant complaints and the railway opened to passengers in May 2008.
