Brief

IKM Consulting Ltd were involved in the emergency response to a domestic gas explosion in the village of Kingscavil, near Linlithgow.

Solution

On the night of the incident, an IKM Structural Engineer was called out assess the condition of the remaining building and search the property for a missing plumber, in conjunction with the fire brigade.

Outcome

IKM were subsequently appointed by the insurance company to lead the forensic investigation to identify the cause of the explosion. The explosion was caused by plumbers allowing the escape of some 15kg of liquid propane gas into the sub-floor void, during commissioning of the heating system.
