Brief

IKM Consulting's engineers and scientists provided a range of services for the demolition of a polyethylene plant on the Wilton international site in Teeside. 

Solution

As planning supervisor under the CDM Regulations, IKM provided audit and safety management services.

IKM's engineers designed and supervised destruct engineering and directed pre-weakening, prior to controlled explosive and mechanical demolition.

Specific structural engineering assessment addressed the risks associated with stressed tendons in the reinforced concrete control building.

Outcome

The building was successfully and safely demolished explosively, despite it lying within an active petrochemical complex.
