Brief
IKM Consulting Ltd were appointed to assess the existing structure, advise on pre-weakening works and to confirm the stability of the structure in the temporary condition.
Solution
The primary structure was a concrete encased, braced steel frame. The roof and floor slabs were in-situ reinforced concrete. The structure was built for the Alloa Brewery Company in the 1950's and was used a product storage facility.
IKM carried out a highly detailed structural assessment, prior to designing the method by which the building could most safely and economically be demolished.
Outcome
The complex structure collapsed exactly as anticipated, allowing the demolition contractor to then remove the scrap steel and crushed concrete for recycling.
