Case Study: Central Control Building.
Location: Grangemouth.

Brief

This project entailed developing a strategy and design for a blast-proof office building. Typically, within a petrochemical complex there will be control rooms and other essential offices, known as forward operating facilities, close to more hazardous areas of the plant. It is essential that these are designed for safety in the event of an accident.

Outcome

The IKM design for the building was unique, in that it was constructed of steel rather than the normal reinforced concrete. A structural, deep trough steel overlay and surface cladding were utilised in this innovative and highly successful design.
