Brief

IKM Consulting investigated historical contamination beneath a refinery Bulk Train Loading Terminal, used to load hydrocarbon products into rail wagons.

Solution

A multi-stage site investigation assessed hydrocarbon contamination beneath the terminal and tanker preparation areas. Some 40 boreholes were installed, supplemented by several trial pits.  

Over three hundred soil and groundwater samples were taken and graphical presentation and modelling techniques employed to provide a detailed representation of the site conditions.

Outcome

Findings from the site investigation were fed into the detailed design of a low-cost, fit for purpose remediation scheme.
