Brief
Our Client had a need to upgrade and enhance its existing security facilities to the Process Plant. An integral part of this was replacing the existing, inadequate Security Gatehouse with a new, larger, blast resistant Gatehouse, to house 2-3 security guards. The new facility was also to act as a reception to the Site, and to house a first aid facility.
IKM were employed to develop the scheme layouts for the facility, and prepare the ‘performance specification'. Detail design was to be undertaken by a blast cabin supplier, with IKM acting on behalf of the Client to ensure the specification was met.
Solution
IKM prepared layout designs and submitted the applications for statutory approvals. Engineering design for the foundations and civils works was also undertaken.
The main issues to address were:
- Blast resistance
- Elevated position for good visibility
- Windows for good visibility, but not to compromise blast safety
- Safe and secure facility for security personnel
