Brief
Over the past few years IKM have been involved with developing an Occupied Building Strategy for our Client. This assessed existing buildings within the petrochemical complex for blast resistance and occupant safety in the event of an incident, and subsequently proposed building upgrades or occupant relocation as appropriate to the level of risk.
For some Plants, the operators were required to pass through Plant areas prior to changing into their ppe. A decision was taken on safety grounds to provide new, blast-resistant, centralised change facilities for the plant operators, situated close to the Site entrance.
Solution
IKM were involved in the design and performance specification for 4 new modular, blast -resistant change facilities. Each unit provided showering, clean and dirty locker areas, and drying rooms for outerwear. The facilities were custom-built, welded steel modular units, constructed to a 200mbar blast-resistant design. IKM also provided a ‘client assurance' role to check the units' compliance with the specification.
