Brief

IKM have been involved in the assessment of existing ‘field' workshops in petrochemical Plant areas, in relation to their risk to occupants during an overpressure incident. A person should be at no greater risk within a workshop than they are at their normal place of work in Plant areas.

Some existing workshops could not be feasibly upgraded to a suitable standard, and therefore new, integrated, blast-enhanced workshops were proposed to serve a number of different Plant areas within the Complex. 

Solution

IKM developed a standard, blast-enhanced design for the new workshops, which has been and is proposed to be used in a number of different locations, each serving a group of Plant areas as a safe, combined resource. The workshops are enhanced structural steel portal frames, with strong cladding and fixings, to minimise displacement in an incident.
