Brief

Over the past few years IKM have been involved with developing an Occupied Building Strategy for our Client. This assessed existing buildings within the petrochemical complex for blast resistance in the event of an incident, and subsequently proposed building upgrades or occupant relocation as appropriate to the level of risk.

The operators from 3 Plants were situated in old, brick built field control rooms which were unable to be feasibly upgraded to offer the required level of protection to the occupants. A new, blast-resistant, combined Amenity and Permitting facility was therefore required to serve the 3 areas, responding to all of their requirements.

Solution

IKM prepared the full architectural, civil and structural design for a new-build, blast-resistant 24m x 12m facility. The steel-framed building provided messing and permitting facilities, within reasonably close proximity to each of the Plant areas but within acceptable limits of blast overpressure.  IKM also provided on-site technical support during construction.
